Jones resigns as Troy State rodeo coach Troy State rodeo coach Rick Jones resigned, after serving in that capacity since July of this year. Jones cited personal reasons as his reason for leaving. He notified school officials on Monday. "Everyone at Troy State has been wonderful to me," Jones said. "It was a decision I had to make for myself and for my family." Jones came to Troy State from Mineral Point, Wisc., where he was a Farrier-Lameness Specialist and Equine breeder-trainer. The rodeo program is in its first year of competition in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association with the men's team ranked sixth and the women's team ranked seventh in the Ozark Region. "He volunteered this and it caught us completely by surprise," Troy State associate athletic director Scott Farmer said. "Coaching is not what Rick wants to do right now. We were happy with him. Rick and his family are tremendous people and we wish them the best." No timetable has yet been set for hiring a new coach.
