WTHJA Springtime Encore

Strong thunderstorms and tornado warnings and watches pummeled the Mid-South from around 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday April 13, 2022, opening day of the Springtime Encore show. Fortunately, it was just thunderstorms and a lot of rain, and no severe weather posed a hazard to horses and riders. But the local TV weathermen hosted a marathon weather report detailing all aspects of the storm to keep people safe. The skies cleared over night, so Thursday brought sunshine and warmer temperatures, up to 70°F in the afternoon. The arenas were no worse for wear and the show proceeded smoothly, finishing on the Saturday before Easter. Despite the weather, the encore show attracted 104 entries, each entering multiple classes.

Naomi Gillen was busy at this show, placing in 34 out of 36 classes, taking Calder Trotz’ Fate two firsts Performance Hunter 3’3”. Calder Trotz rode her horse to Junior Hunter 3’3”/3’6” (comb.) Champion.

Clay Alder and Mindy Wurzburg’s Shipshape were USHJA 3’ Champions.

Kayla Benson rode Pam Hill’s Corville Z to Low/High Child/Adult Jumper 1m Champion and Trey Lawson’s Reba to Reserve.
