Opening Meets
November is a popular month for foxhunting Opening Meets and Blessing of the Hounds. Several in the mid-south area held their Opening Meets before Thanksgiving.

Oak Grove Hunt Club held theirs November 12, 2011 at Blackwater Creek Ranch, Laws Hill, MS.

Chula Homa Hunt
Chula Homa Hunt’s Opening Meet was November 12th at Whitworth Farm, Pickens, MS. Fifty riders and 200 followers enjoyed the day’s hunt.  The meet featured a book signing by author Allison Crews with her newest book Nemesis.
Crews recorded a humorous incident of the day on her Facebook page: “A former Miss (city concealed to protect the innocent) hopped off one of our five Tally Ho wagons and ventured into the bushes to relieve herself, where she was promptly licked by a brace of hounds! And everyone saw her bare ‘you know’ when she popped up, sans attire, in shock! She recovered magnanimously, did the elbow-wrist wave, and took it with a smile!”

Longreen
Longreen Foxhounds celebrated their 54th annual Opening Meet on November 5th at Harriet &  Jake McFadden’s Birdlands, Como, MS. The hounds were blessed in front of the Manor House, then Huntsman Susan Walker, MFH led them to the first cast. The field of 35 riders and two carriages followed the hounds, including Bob Martin and his team of Friesians.

He was a past president of the Germantown Charity Horse Show Association, and involved in many horse sports as a long-time member of the horse community in the Germantown, TN area.  A memorial service was scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Germantown Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder.
