The Tennessee Stock Horse Association (TNSHA) hosted its second clinic and show of the year, October 17-18, 2020 at Clearview Horse Farm in Shelbyville, TN. Clinicians included Morgan Moreno, NRCHA professional from Bryan, Texas; AQHA professional Delaney Rostad from Knoxville, TN; and MTSU Graduate student, Lucas Brock from Franklin, TN. All three clinicians are well-versed in stock horse events and helped teach every rider how to improve their scores in each class.
The clinic covered all four stock horse classes: cow work, reining, pleasure, and trail. There were 30 participants of all skill levels and horses with varying degrees of experience. TNSHA is an affiliate of the American Stock Horse Association, which prides itself on “helping people ride a better horse.” Before every show, clinicians are hired to put on a day-long clinic emphasizing the four show events. Riders have the opportunity to work cattle at the clinic as well.
TNSHA has had a year of tremendous growth, totaling over 250 total entries between July and October shows. The clinics have begun to fill fast, and have far exceeded the expectations of participants each time. Exhibitors have traveled from Indiana, Michigan, and Florida to attend clinics and shows. At the end of the clinic day, TNSHA held an open Jackpot herd work, paying out to the top three entries. Lisa Harrison was the winner of the October 17th Jackpot herd work.
TNSHA would like to thank the many members of the MTSU Stock Horse Team for helping run the clinic and show. Members of the team helped scribe, push cattle, announce, and work the gates. Students from the MTSU team gained valuable experience showing and helping run the show.
TNSHA will host the Region 2 Championship clinic and show at the Miller Coliseum on November 20-21, 2020. No qualification is necessary to attend the championship show, and Buckle highpoints are awarded to each highpoint winner. The show will be followed with the Candy Corn Classic Open show.
