Grand Oaks Resort in Weirsdale, Florida hosted the Grand Oaks Combined Driving, Derby, and Pleasure Show on February 7-9, 2020.

The competitor’s party preceded the driving competition on Thursday evening February 6. Dressage and Cones competition began early Friday morning, with the Derby following o Friday afternoon. This portion of the show culminated Friday night with a BBQ dinner and awards for the Derby and Combined Test divisions.

The Pleasure Driving show took up the second half of the weekend’s driving competition on Saturday and Sunday, with a dinner on Saturday evening. The Pleasure show began at 8 a.m. with Turnout, followed by Reinsmanship and Working classes. Last on the class list was the Ride & Drive competition. The afternoon’s classes included Progressive Obstacle, Reinsmanship, and Performance.

Sunday’s classes began with Reinsmanship, followed by Cross Country, Working, Timed Obstacles, and Fault & Out Obstacles.

Judges for the Combined Test and Derby were Kail Palmer-Miller and John Greenall. The Pleasure Driving Judge was Kail Palmer-Miller. Official photographer for the show was John Robinson at Pics of You, Dry Fork, Va.

Special awards were given for Concours D’Elegance, Gentleman’s High Point Champion, Ladies High Point, Developing Driver, Best Gentleman’s Turnout, AMHA Morgan High Point, American Miniature Horse Registry High Point, American Shetland Pony –Small Pony & VSE High Point.

Mid-South Drivers

Wanda Chancellor of Olive Branch, MS drove in the Combined Test (CT), a combination of dressage and cones tests. She placed first in cones, third in dressage, and third overall over 13 competitors. 

Brenda Rachor also drove in the CT and placed second in dressage. She drove in the pleasure show and earned a first in Reinsmanship.

Joanna Wilburn was the groom.

Wanda said, “Brenda is staying this year at Grand Oaks and I was her guest for the show from Black Prong Equestrian Village. We enjoyed a barbeque dinner Friday night and an awards dinner Saturday night.”
