The culmination of the Lucky Dog 2019 barrel racing series brought fast action to the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn. on the first weekend in December (6-8). This was a Better Barrel Races Double Points/Double Qualifier event, which included the BBR Mid-South X-tra Series Finale on Saturday. The show also included the American Qualifier, and the $10,000 Select Stallion Stakes Bonus Money. There was $9,000 added money in the Open 4D; $6,500 added in the Runnin’ With the Pack Sidepots; $3,000 added BBR X-tra Sidepot; and $200 added in the Pony 4D.
Highlights of the show were the Top 10 American Semi Finals Qualifiers on Saturday, and the fastest time of the weekend was run by Kassie Mowry and Epic Guy - 14.260.
Announcer Lenell Dean was back at the microphone and from Memphis, he was headed to Oklahoma City for the BBR OKC Futurity, December 10-15, 2019 with $115,000 added money. In between announcing jobs, Dean said he’s been working cows every day.
Christy Lewis summarized the weekend’s activities: “The total payout cash was $155,593. Contestants came from 18 states across the U.S. – from Oklahoma and Texas to New York and Florida.”
Friday saw 531 Open entries run the barrels; there were 687 runs on Saturday; and 565 entries on Sunday, making a total of 3,916 entries, including all the sidepots. Saturday night was the American Qualifier with extra festivities to kick of the event: a huge American flag and plenty of pyrotechnics.
Friday’s Open fastest time was scored by Randee Prindle of Gilman City, Missouri riding Red Man Jones: 14.355, winners of the Open 1D.
Friday’s Youth 1D winner: Ali Kate Kelleherof Milledgeville, Georgia on Dis Kat Kin Skat: 14.397
Friday’s Adult 1D winner: Chriatian Shipley of Harviell, Missouri on Zann Man: 14.582
Jimmy Bryant took the top two slots in Friday’s Senior Sidepot: first on Special Chicado (14.642) and second in One Famous Schulz (14.837). Jimmy Cagle of Fayetteville, Tenn. on Dash D Hefa was a close third (14.941).
Friday’s Futurity Sidepot winner was Ceri Ward of Wayne, Oklahoma on I Am Very Unique (14.816); she also placed fourth with Chasin Misty (15. 216). Jimmy Bryant and One Famous Schulz (14.837) were a very close second. Ceri Ward and Hiccup took the Derby Sidepot with a time of 14.657.
Saturday was the big day with 689 runs. Kassie Mowry from Dublin, Texas and Epic Guy had the fastest time in the Open 1D, in the Adult Sidepot,and in the Derby: 14.260. Jimmy Cagle and Victorious Dash were a close second in the Open 1D with a time of 14.546.
Paige Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma and Famous Hayday were nearly as fast in the Youth Sidepot, taking first in 14.288 seconds. Ali Kate Kelleher and Dis Kat Kin Skat were a close second (14.480).
Jimmy Bryant and Jimmy Cagle battled it out in the Senior Sidepot, with Bryant taking first on Special Chicado (14.687) and Cagle taking second on Libbys On The Label with a time of 14.766.
Saturday’s Futurity winner was Dusty Pike of Caruthersville, Missouri on Mr. Cool Eddie (14.825).
Paige Jones on Famous Hayday took the top prize in the Runnin’ With The Pack with a time of 14.288. Randee Prindle and Red Man Jones were a close second (14.479), with Ali Kate Kelleher and Dis Kat Kin Skat just 0.001 seconds slower to put her in third (14.480).
In the BBR X-tra, Kassie Mowry and Epic Guy had the win (14.260), with Paige Jones and Famous Hayday second (14.288) and Kassir Mowry third on her other horse Dashing Canelo (14.415).

The rest of the Top 10 American Semi-Finals Qualifiers were: Langdon Taylor of Aubrey, Texas on Dashin Louie (14.471); Sara Withers of Paris, Texas on Shoeless Joe Biancus (14.520); Shelby West of Diana, Texas on Sunsugar Peppy (14.523); Kenzie Cook of Barnwell, SC on Flyin Firefly (14.549); Ashley Castleberry of Montgomery, Texas on Dashers Hot Panajet (14.585); Chelsea McFarlin of Royston, Georgia on Firewater Sam (14.600); Sissy Winn of Chapman Ranch, Texas on Flash Red Flame (14.608); and Ashley Castleberry on her other horse Calfee Stormy Dash (14.632). The top seven entries earned cash and the top ten advanced to the Semi Finals.

Sunday was Pony day, with Parker Powers of Lexington, Tenn. and Midnight taking first with a time of 15.898. Addison Davis of Oxford, Miss. and Keebler were second (16.167) and Molly Beth Anglin of Huntsville, Ala. and Beyonce were third (16.341).
In Sunday’s Open 1D, Cayla Small of Wilson, Okla. took top honors on Slick N Black (14.417).

Jimmy Bryant and One Famous Schulz were third (14.928); Jimmy Cagle and Figure Im Special were fourth (14.973) and Cagle was fifth with Dash D Hefa (14.981).
