Sikeston, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams were back in action October 3-5, 2019 at the rodeo hosted by Three Rivers College. The UT Martin men’s squad placed fourth in the team standings with 550 points, and the women’s team posted a fifth-place finish after securing 150 total points.
Missouri Valley College won the men’s side with 770 points, while East Mississippi Community College earned the women’s title with 375 points.
Stetson Bierman paved the way for UT Martin in bareback riding, as the sophomore from Hidalgo, Ill. placed second in average (142), second in the opening round (76), and third in the short go (66). Hunter Green also chalked up points for UT Martin in this event, as his score of 76 in the second round was the second-best score.
Four UT Martin cowboys accrued points in calf roping. Chase Thrasher earned points in all three phases, posting the best time (10.2) in the short go, splitting third in average (20.9), and placing fifth in the opening round (10.7). Cole Harmon came through with points at all three levels, finishing third in the short go (10.8), fourth in the first round (10.6), and fifth in average (21.4). Craig Parks finished sixth in both average (23.5) and the short round (12.2), while Cole Walker’s time of 11.1 seconds in the opening go was the sixth-best time.
In breakaway roping, Kailey Schmidt stood out for UT Martin. A sophomore who hails from Cottage Grove, Tenn., she placed second in average (7.1), second in the short round (3.9), and fifth in the first go (3.2). Also building up points was Bailey Barrett, who came in fourth in average (16.7), fourth in the short go (13.0), and split sixth in the first round (3.7).

Harmon piled up points in steer wrestling – marking his second scoring event of the weekend. His time of 5.4 seconds in the short round topped the field, while his 22.2 average ranked as the third-best tally. Hunter Styles’ 5.2 seconds was the best time in the opening go and was also good enough for fifth place in average. UT Martin’s third scoring representative in steer wrestling was Logan Neal, whose time of 8.8 seconds in the first round split sixth.
The women’s squad gained points courtesy of Shayne Mallory’s efforts in goat tying. She placed fifth with a time of 7.7 seconds in the opening round, and finished sixth with a 17.3 average.
Ethan Wheeler was the lone UT Martin cowboy to reel off points in team roping, as he and Southern Arkansas’ Strand Barricklow finished second in the short round (7.4) and fifth in average (20.2).
In barrel racing, Casey Allen accounted for fourth-place finishes in both average (33.99) and in the second round (16.97).
UT Martin resumes the fall campaign at a rodeo hosted by Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas on October 31 through November 2, 2019. On November 21-23, 2019, UT Martin will rodeo at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. That will complete the fall rodeo season.
