Saturday morning September 14, 2019 turned out to be slightly cooler, with a slight breeze from the north and lower humidity. So the morning’s classes at the Oak View Stables schooling show were quite bearable. But all month temperatures had been ten degrees hotter than normal for this time of year: 96°/86°F.
Rose Marie Lawson was very pleased with the weather and with the turnout for the show, in lieu of the high heat and drought the region has been experiencing. “We had nine in the Long Stirrup class this morning and six in the Short Stirrup. That was more than I expected. We have had some nice Rollingwoods ponies [at the show]; folks from Oxford and Tupelo came to the show. We’ll have about 30-35 horses at this show,” she said.
Meredith Tipton brought students to the show, riding her “tried and true” horses Road Less Traveled and One Under Par. There was some sidesaddle riding at the show, too, for some solid practice in the one-stirrup saddle.
Rose Marie was proud of her horses’ and students’ performances at the Brownland Fall I show, too. Kayla Benson and Reba were Champions in the High Childrens Jumper 1.10m. The pair placed third in the NAL/WIHS Childrens Jumper Classic. Benson also rode Corville Z in the Junior Hunter 3’6” division, placing in every class. Lawson’s student Lois Hill placed first in the Equitation 11 & Under and Short Stirrup Equitation Over fences on Ellie Mae, owned by Rose Marie Lawson.
“October 1st marks the 42nd year of Oak View Stables,” said Lawson proudly. The next Oak View show is October 5th.
