Hunter/jumper shows in the mid-south got underway Easter weekend, with the beginning of Passover coinciding with Good Friday (April 3). West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association’s kick-off show, USEF A rated Springtime in Dixie (April 2-5), had a good turnout with riders enjoying the spring weather, although entries were fewer than expected. The show was followed by the Springtime Encore, April 9-12. Veteran veterinarian Kakki Wright was on hand to handle the horse health issues (“I treated four colics today,” she said on Saturday) and to be “horse show mom” and “horse show aunt.”

At Springtime in Dixie, Jason Schnelle’s Calena was Performance Hunter 3’3” – 3’6” Champion, with Carita Palmer’s Playboy, ridden by Liza Stockstill, Reserve Champion. Calena was also Jr./AO Hunter 3’3”-3’6” Champion, ridden by Kristen Schnelle, with Kate Duke and Be My Date taking Reserve Champion.

Mary George and Clever Endeavor were Green Pony Champions, with Christian Baier’s Foxhollow Woodlark, ridden by Kali Lane Bruns, Reserve Champion.

Taylor Shea’s To The Moon And Back was Large Pony Champion, with Sophis Zuckerman’s Morning Star Struck By Silver, Reserve Champion.

In the Adult Amateur 36+ division, Cheryl Rubenstein’s Riesling was Champion and Mindy Wurzburg was Reserve with Overseas.

Children’s Pony Champion was Rollingwoods Over the Top, with Vanessa Mazzoli up, as Alexa Fogelman’s Prada took Reserve.

Michael Tokaruk and Zento VCV won the 1.10M Jumper Class, as Shanna Beyer’s Free To Fly II took Reserve.

Pony Jumper winner was Mr. Know It All, Kali Lane Burns the rider, owned and trained by Christian Baier.

Liz Capocaccia and Calett 3 won the WTHJA Horse Medal. The ASPCA/Maclay Medal went to Grace Upshaw and Brugge. The Pessoa U.S. Hunter Seat Medal was won by Alex Joerg riding Fresh Air. The pair also won the USHJA 3’3” Jumping Seat Medal. Olivia Yukon and Susan Laros’ Levonworth won THIS Children’s Medal. Joy Pittman and Yelp were Champions in the WIHS/NAL Child/Adult Hunter Classic, with Dee Pellegrini and Outspoken taking Reserve. Mindy Wurzburg and Overseas placed third.

For the second in a row of spring time shows, the West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association Springtime Encore, April 10-12, 2-15 drew more entries than the Springtime show and had great horse show weather all weekend. The highlight of the show was the USHJA Hunter Derby on Friday evening. Out of 19 entries, Audrey Muscari and Rockin La Bamba won the class and the $750 prize money. Emily Hertz and Outspoken were second and Emily’s horse Cordino placed third. Beanie Cone showed the hunter trainer still has what it takes to place fourth on Simplistic and trainer Jason Schnelle placed fifth with Calena.

In Equitation 11 and under on the flat, Tiffany & Company, Ella Trotz the rider, was the winner. Rollingwoods Over The Top, with Madison Hill riding, placed second. Double Stuff, with Sarah Trotz aboard, was third. In the Equitation 11 and under over fences. Rollingwoods Over The Top took top honors. Double Stuff was second, Tiffany & Company was third. Sweet Apple Splash, owned and ridden by Meg Selvidge, was fourth in both.
