The Middle Tennessee Carriage Club (MTCC) held their 5th annual schooling driving event on Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Lazy AO Farm in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Amy Neary traveled from her base in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee to judge dressage tests and to provide one-on-one lessons after lunch with drivers. For once on a weekend, there was sunny weather for an equestrian event! Kate said, “The weather was a tad warm considering we’ve been cooler than normal for so long, but there was a great breeze and a nice mix of sun and clouds to keep us from totally cooking!”
This year MTCC ran a Combined Test, which consists of a dressage test and cones test. There were horse and pony turnouts entered in both the Training Level and Preliminary Level. Our best Preliminary Level score was achieved by Brenda Rachor and her pony Bunny. She took first in Preliminary Single Pony and was Preliminary Champion. Kate Bushman driving Jewel was Preliminary Reserve Champion.
Our best Training Level score was achieved by Suzanne Fuller driving Bliss, owned by Kate Bushman. Suzanne took first in Training Single Horse and was Training Champion. Claire Root driving Canton’s By Design was second and Training Reserve Champion. Earl Burkett and Easter were third. Jane Hoffman and Gator were a close fourth place. Rebecca Jones driving Obi took home first in Training Single Pony.
After lunch a few drivers adventured out on the beautiful trails and mowed paths at Lazy AO. Five drivers took advantage of getting some excellent individual coaching from Judge Amy Neary.
MTCC greatly appreciates being hosted by Ron and Ardeth Obenauf at Lazy AO Farm. We also send a big thanks to our volunteers who helped scribe (Jane Muir), judge cones (Janice Meszoely), work the dressage in-gate (Tina Melton), help measure cones and reset marker balls (Alan Hoffman and Ruth Massey) and, last but not least, setup and teardown everything, do safety checks, and answer a 100 questions (Ardeth Obenauf).
