Saturday night, December 8, 2018 at the Prentiss County Ag Center in Booneville, MS was the Rodeo Finals night for Calvary Rodeo Productions. Producer Tommy Wilbanks says that Calvary Rodeo “is a family, Christian rodeo” that offers events for all ages. They put on about 12 rodeos per year in various places around the mid-south: not only Booneville, but also in Savannah, Tenn. at the Savannah Fair; in Halls, Ripley, and Millington, Tenn. at the Goat Days Rodeo. This rodeo was Championship night, with belt buckles and monogrammed tote bags given to the champions in each rodeo category.
Tom and Donna Hathaway of Lakeland Leatherworks made a special trip to this rodeo to watch Caleb Agee – the Junior Bull Rider Champion – ride his final bull of the season and receive his Championship buckle, wearing his custom-made American flag chaps. The chaps were specially made for Caleb by Lakeland Leatherworks, and the Hathaways had a booth showcasing their other leather goods at the rodeo.
The rodeos begin with mutton busting and steer riding for the younger set, then Junior Bulls. Following this is the flag presentation with a testimonial and prayer from Tommy Wilbanks. Then follow the rest of the rodeo events. In addition to Caleb Agee, other champions awarded buckles on Saturday night were:
Bull Riding: Reid Arnold
Junior Steers: Collin Craig
Bareback Bronc: Dawson Moore
Team Roping Healer: Tanner McCollum
Team Roping Header: Joey Moody
Ranch Bronc Rider: Andy Allen
Open Barrel Racing: Caleigh Greene
Junior Barrel Racing: Valerie Browning
Wilbanks congratulates all the 2018 champions and said “the Finals was a huge success.” He thanks all contestants and spectators and looks forward to more rodeos in 2019. The 2019 season starts February 9th with another rodeo in Booneville, Miss. at the Prentiss County Agri-Center.
