UTM Rodeo Continues Fall Season At Missouri Valley College

The University of Tennessee at Martin took part in its second rodeo of the seasonSept. 21-23, 2017, as the women’s team finished third and the men’s squad placed fourth at Missouri Valley College.

Both UT Martin teams accumulated 300 team points, as the women’s team finished only 30 points behind first-place Missouri Valley College. The Vikings also claimed the men’s title with 880 points.

A pair of UT Martin cowboys garnered points in bareback riding. Jonny Walker received points in all three phases by finishing third in the short go (68) and fourth in both the opening round (63) and in average (131). Houston Herbert’s 72 in the first round was good enough for second place and also carried over to finish third in average.

The UT Martin duo of Colt Matthews and Hunter Styles accounted for points in calf roping. Matthews placed first in the short go (9.5) and second in average (21.3), while Styles managed a second-place finish (10.6) in the opening round and a sixth-place finish with a 28.1 average.

Shara Adcock paced the UT Martin women’s squad in breakaway roping, as her 3.4-second performance in the first round earned her a fifth-place finish.

In steer wrestling, Ethan Foster led three UT Martin cowboys who tallied points. The junior from Williamsport, Tenn. came in fourth place with a time of 5.4 seconds in the opening round. Craig Parks also placed sixth in the short go (11.5) and in average (18.6), while Styles posted a time of 6.0 seconds flat in the first round to place sixth.

Kayla Lombardo was the star for the UT Martin women’s team in goat tying, as she earned points in all three categories. Her 7.4 seconds in the short go split second; she turned in a fourth-place finish in average (15.0) and split fifth in the first round (7.6).

Three UT Martin cowboys piled up points in team roping. The all-UT Martin team of Spencer Meyer and Carson Stroup finished fourth in both the short go (17.4) and in average (27.4). Meanwhile, Ross Mitchell teamed up with East Mississippi’s Ethan Wheeler to post a time of 9.3 seconds in the first round, splitting sixth place.

In barrel racing, Ashley Brooks led the way for the women’s team with top-four finishes in each phase. The senior from South Fulton, Tenn. placed second in the opening round (14.25), second in average (28.71), and fourth in the short go (14.46). Kenzley Wilson and Summer Conley also competed in the event, dialing up points in every category. Wilson managed 14.33 seconds in the short round (third), a 28.91 average (fourth), and a 14.58-second effort in the opening round (sixth). Conley earned a fourth-place finish in the first round (14.39 seconds) before coming in sixth place in both the short go (19.29) and in average (33.68).

UT Martin continues its fall slate Sept. 28-30, 2017 when it heads to Livingston, Ala. for a rodeo hosted by the University of West Alabama.
