The WTHJA Memphis in May I show, May 4-7, 2017, had great spring weather for the show. A highlight of this show was the $1,000 WTHJA Hunter Derby on Friday afternoon. Beanie Cone was the winner with Cheney Thomasson’s horse Foremost. Kakki Wright and Comaraderie won the Low Hunter Derby.
Calder Trotz and Brownland Miss Kimmy won the Green Pony/Regular Pony Classic, as well as the WIHS Pony Equitation. Emma Prather and Keep The Cash were winners of the WIHS/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic. Susan Ross, riding Mindy Wurzburg’s Overseas, won the WIHS/NAL Adult Amateur Classic. Mary Ashley Bateman and Ultaire won the Junior/AO Classic 3’3”/3’6”.
In the medal classes, Olivia Yukon and Levonworth won the WTHJA Horse Medal and the Pessoa/U.S. Medal. The ASPCA/Maclay Medal winner was Isabella Baldock riding Coronado. The Marshall & Sterling U.S. Pony Medal went to Emma Rupinski and Pocketful of Sunshine. T.H.I.S. Children’s Medal went to Emma Prather and Keep The Cash.
The WTHJA Memphis in May II show, May 11-14, 2017 started with a rainy Thursday and Friday, but sunny weather and mild temperatures were on tap for Saturday and Sunday. The WTHJA Hunter Derby attracted 26 competitors; the winner at this show was Chaz Harpman on Simply Red, taking home $1,500. The Jr/AO Classic 3’3” also attracted 26 riders, with Mary Grayson Fauser and Captivate coming out on top. Grace Hutson and Romantik won the WIHS/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic, while Margaret Weaver and Spin Off were Champions in the WIHS/NAL Adult Amateur Classic.
McKenzie Welch and Magical Me were tops in the Green/Reg. Pony Classic. Emma Rupinski and Pocketful of Sunshine were Small Pony Hunter Champions, while Hagen Blackwell and Foot Steps were Medium Pony Hunter Champions.
In the Junior Hunters, Shea Taylor and Charisma were Large Junior Hunter Champions. Allison Rayburn and Captivate, and Olivia Yukon and Levonworth were Junior Hunter 3’3” Champions. Rachel Sutton and Talladega, and Sydney Goodin on Blue Water were Reserve Champions.
