Rider Profile: Delores Cain and Reys Smart Chic

post-title
If you attended the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association show in Memphis in April, you might have seen Delores Cain riding Reys Smart Chic in the NRCHA Classes. She was first on the Non Pro Limited $50 added and third in the 5K Non Pro Limited on Saturday April 8th. She was first in the Non Pro Limited $50 added class and second in the 5K Non Pro Limited on Sunday April 9th.

Earlier this year, she attended the NRCHA World Championship show in Fort Worth, TX, February 10-18, 2017. The NRCHA World Championship Show features the top horses and riders from each of the NRCHA’s eight geographic regions competing for World Championship titles in fourteen events. Delores and Reys Smart Chic placed tenth in the 1K Limited out of 66 horses, and third in Select, out of 24 horses.

Delores has been showing this horse for two years (in June), and her husband Tom has just started riding in these shows, too. He was third on Shesa Too Timin Chic in the 1K Non Pro Limited class at the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association show in Memphis.

Delores got her start riding with Joe Harper at his training stables in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and his partner Brandy Johnson helped her find Reys Smart Chic.  Joe trains Reined Cow Horses and Reining Horses, and is a member of NRCHA, ARHA, and NRHA.

But commuting to Bowling Green – through tough Nashville traffic – was a bit too difficult. So now she works on her reining skills with Sam Schaffhauser in Eads, Tenn., and she rides with Zeke Entz in Collierville, Tenn. “to get better on the cows,” she says.

Next on her horse show calendar is the Southwest NRCHA Show in Fort Worth, May 17-21. The pair also compete at NRHA shows.
