The 2016 Lucky Dog Barrel Races season concluded on December 2-4, 2016 in Memphis, TN at the ShowPlace Arena. The show offered a large purse - $13,200 total added money, with $8,000 added Open 4D, plus $5,000 added pack sidepot. This show drew 485 contestants from 17 states and Canada, making for 1,705 runs around the barrels in three days. Riders came from Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Maryland. Total Open, Average, Youth, Adult, Senior & Runnin’ With the Pack payout was $106,315.68. The Futurity, Derby, WPRA, and Pony payouts totaled $7,282.28, bringing the grand total payout to $113,597.96 for the weekend, plus another $14,750 in the American Qualifier.  For added fun, there was a National Finals Rodeo (NFR) watch party each night.

Friday night was “wear red” night – to remember everyone deployed, and the competitive action started at 4:00 p.m. There was an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest on Friday night just to add to the festivities.

Saturday’s action started early at 8:30 am. After run #100, the small dogs entered the arena for the Small Dog Match Races. Sunday was the large dogs’ day with the Large Dog Match Races after run #100. Sunday’s competition started at 9:30 am with the Pony Race, followed by the Open Jackpot.

The Youth High Money winner was Carly Taylor, taking home $487.28 and a buckle. Brandon Cullins was the Adult High Money winner, taking home $736. 40 and a buckle. He was also the Overall High Money winner, racking up $4,625.44.
Senior High Money winner was Jimmy Cagle, earning $507.12 and a buckle. Jimmy was also the third Overall High Money winner, taking home $3,107.86 for his weekend efforts.

Friday’s Open 1D winner was Brandon Cullins, of Clements, MD, on VQ Sucker Punch with a time of 14.442, earning him $1290.63. Brandon also was first and second in Friday’s Adult Sidepot, on VQ Sucker Punch and Foxie Stinson, respectively, and he won the Derby Sidepot with VQ Sucker Punch. Carly Taylor, of Clinton, TN, was second in Friday’s Open and first in the Youth Sidepot on Diva Dinero, running in 14.589 seconds.

Victoria Williams, of Kiln, MS, on Three Jets Olena won Saturday’s Open 1D in a time of 14.398. Karsyn Daniels, of McKinney, TX, on ZZ’s Jetting Muffin won the Saturday Youth Sidepot in 14.513 seconds. In the Adult Sidepot, Brandon Cullins was, again, first and second, this time on CP Medina (14.517) and VQ Sucker Punch (14.655), respectively. Jimmy Cagle, of Fayetteville, TN, won Saturday’s Senior Sidepot 1D on Figure Im Special in 14.705 seconds. He and CP Medina also won Saturday’s Derby Sidepot. In Saturday’s WPRA Sidepot, Karsyn Daniels and ZZ’s Jetting had the fastest time of 14.513.

In Sunday’s Youth Sidepot, JR Sullivan, of Hattiesburg, MS, was first and second, on Reds Peppy Frost (14.187) and Flitten To Fame (14.592), respectively.

There were 22 entries in Sunday’s Pony Race, with Alex Gray, of Philadelphia, MS riding Sugar, coming out on top in the 1D in 16.351 seconds. Haley Hart, of West Helena, AR, and Sugar Ray were a close second in 1D with a time of 16.530.
Jimmy Cagle, of Fayetteville, TN, riding Figure Im Special, was the 1D Runnin’ With the Pack Champion. Brittany Hurley, of Clarksville, AR, and Ladds Money were the 2D Runnin’ With the Pack Champions. Letitia Twisdale, of Moscow, TN, and Smoke were the 3D Runnin’ With the Pack Champions. And Connie Curtis, of Havana, AR, and Zan Jacks Reflection were 4D Runnin’ With the Pack Champions.
