On Saturday, November 5, 2016, Hiwassee College Equine Studies students hosted their first horse show: the Fall Fusion Dressage and Combined Training Show, offering classes in Dressage, Gaited Dressage, Cowboy Dressage, and a Combined Test. The judge was Laura Wolfe.
“The show was entirely run by students: hiring the judge, securing sponsorships, marketing and advertising, managing entries, scheduling ride times, coordinating volunteers, even building and painting jumps! The horse show was the final project for the students in the Equine Events Management class. This type of hands-on experience is a hallmark of the Hiwassee College equine program. Thanks to the students’ hard work, the show was fun, friendly, and well-run, with overwhelmingly positive comments from participants. All proceeds from the show benefit the equine studies program – for new tack/equipment, subsidized student field trips, etc.,” said Dara Lindner, DVM, head of Equine Studies at Hiwassee College
Dr. Lindner supervised the students who organized and ran the show. They plan to host two shows a year: one in April for the Spring semester and one in November for Fall semester.
