The arena at the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn., was filled with competitors the weekend of November 12-13, 2016 from Florida all the way to Michigan. Riders from beginner to advanced were here to compete in the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association Fall Finale. This was the last show of the 2016 season for this Tenn. affiliate association. Show Judges Stephanie McConnell and Shane Cochran kept a close on the riders who competed in two different pens over the course of the two day show.

William Butler, a volunteer and long standing member of the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association, got his start by simply coming to watch a show. When he went to watch a Ranch Horse show, he observed a lady having difficulties with her horse. He saw her ask for help from a trainer, who was not her trainer. He kindly got onto her horse and helped her work out the problem. This kind of assistance was not anything he had seen before at other shows, and it remaines apparent that ranch horse folk help one another.

With a big draw of attendees for this show there was a large selection of classes offered, ranging from reining, to rail classes, trail, a large variety of cattle classes, conformation, and ranchmanship. There was certainly something for every rider this weekend.

For anyone who wants to get involved or just try classes in the Ranch Horse Association, you can find general information on the American Ranch Horse Association website: www.americanranchhorse.net. The Volunteer Ranch Horse Association is not short on hospitality. They encourage and support their youth and amateur competitors within their association. Whether you want to add a few shows to your current 2017 schedule, or just want to try something different, the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association would love to have you saddle up and join them for a weekend of ranch riding fun!
