Brownland Farm, Franklin, TN, finished its 2016 USHJA-rated horse show season with the Autumn Country, October 18-22, and Autumn Classic, October 25-29, shows. The final show of the year at Brownland will be the Alabama Hunter Jumper Association Year-End Show on November 11-13.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, the highlight of the show was the Autumn Country Grand Prix. The $25,000 Grand Prix saw ten entries, with Miguel Ventura taking first and fourth on Chi Chi and Quan, respectively. David Jennings filled in the gaps with a second on Blue Moon 22 and third with KM Corfina. Louise Graves and Zavira were fifth.
David Jennings was, by far, the biggest winner of the show, taking home over $13,000 in winnings by placing in nine out of ten classes. He was first in the 1.3 Meter Jumper Stake and the 1.4 Meter Welcome Stake, in addition to his placings in the Grand Prix. Miguel Ventura placed in 7 out of 7 classes, taking home over $11,000 in earnings.
There were 32 entries in Brownland’s Hunter Derby this week, with Colleen Acosta taking first and second on After Dark and Scout, respectively. Colleen was a big money winner at the show, placing in 31 out of 37 classes with over $4,000 to show for her efforts. Louise Graves was also a top money winner at the show, also earning over $4,000 in just 5 out of 7 classes.
Veterinarian Dr. Kakki Wright placed in 7 out of 7 of her classes, with three wins and a second in Pre Adult Hunter on Comaraderie.
In Equitation, the Pessoa/US Medal went to Anna Marie Mayes riding Fabrege; the pair also won the ASPCA class. The Marshall & Sterling US Pony Medal went to Hagen Blackwell riding Foot Steps. Olivia Arter on Rembrandt won THIS Children’s Medal.
There were 17 entries in the WIHS/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic, with Mary Grayson Fauser besting them all on Captivate. There were also 17 entries in the WIHS/NAL Adult Hunter Classic and Tricia Conahan captured the win on her Clark Kent. Full results are available at horseshowsonline.com.
During the second week’s Autumn Classic, a number of Halloween-festive activities were planned. A $1000 Best Costume Awards for Thursday's Welcome Stake was sponsored by Danice Grisham & Showtime Farms. The Halloween Costume Parade in the East/Ingold Ring at the end of Friday's show day was sponsored by Kelly Mullen, Macy Wesson and Cornerstone Equestrian. The Exhibitor's Party was a costume affair as well.
The annual Mikey Groom's class, with Hunter and Jumper sections, presented by Tameron Petersen, was held this week, too, recognizing the work of incredible grooms. And 40 horses qualified for the $25,000 Brownland Hunter Derby Finals on Friday, Oct. 28.
