Murray, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams competed in a pair of rodeos at Murray State, October 13-16, producing four top-four showings over the four-day event.
In the first rodeo on Thursday and Friday, both UT Martin rodeo teams finished in second place. The men’s team earned 395 points, while the women’s squad racked up 230 points.
The UT Martin women’s team won the second rodeo on Saturday and Sunday. They accumulated 230 points, while the men’s team finished fourth with 230 points.
In the first rodeo, Houston Herbert placed first in the opening round (69) in bareback riding. He was second in average (115) and fourth in the short go (46).
Douglas Rich earned team points in calf roping, finishing fourth in average (31.5), fourth in the second round (20.6) and split fifth in the opening round (10.9).
Three UT Martin cowgirls scored in breakaway roping. Savannah Warner placed at the top in average (5.9) and in the short go (2.9), and split second in the first round (3.0). Shara Adcock’s 7.4 average and 4.3 performances in the second round earned fourth-place finishes, and she split sixth with her time of 3.1 seconds in the opening round. Kenzley Wilson (3.0) split second place in the first round for UT Martin.
Tucker Kail earned points in all three phases of steer wrestling. His 10 seconds in the short go earned him fourth place, while his average time (16) and first round time (6) placed him fifth.
A trio of UT Martin cowboys had points in team roping, including the two best finishes in the event. Rich partnered with East Mississippi’s Marcus Theriot to sweep first place honors in each phase (12.7 average, 6.5 first round, 6.2 second round). Hunter Styles teamed with Hunter Roof to place second in average (13.7), second in the opening round (6.7) and second in the short go (7). Ross Mitchell joined Ethan Wheeler of Northeast Alabama to place third in the short round (10.8) and fourth in average (23.2).
UT Martin cowgirls were among six of the 10 finalists in barrel racing. Reagan Adkins led the charge by splitting first in average (28.96), ranking first in the short go (14.39), and splitting third in the opening round (14.57). Ashley Brooks split first with a 28.96 average after finishing second in the first round (14.3) and fourth in the short go (14.66). Finishing third with a 29.22 average was Raegan Taylor, who also finished third in the short go (14.6) and split sixth in the first round (14.62). Madison Crow was the top finisher in the opening round with a time of 14.21; Megan Crow and Molly Hill each split sixth in the first round with a time of 14.62.
In the second rodeo, Craig Parks won points in all three phases of calf roping. His opening performance of 9.6 seconds ranked fifth, while his 18.3 short go and 27.9 average were earned him sixth place.
Brooks and Hannah Mosley placed in the finals of breakaway roping, as Mosley split third with a 3.0 in the opening round and Brooks’ time of 3.3 seconds ranked sixth.
Robbie Van Holten, one of the final 10 competitors in steer wrestling, nearly swept all three categories of the event. His 9.7 average and 4.2 first round times were the best, while his 5.5 effort in the short go ranked second.
The duo of Rich and Theriot had another quality finish in team roping, placing first in average (11.5), first in the short go (5.2) and second in the opening round (6.3). Warner teamed with Murray State’s Cole Gibson to place third in average (17.6) and third in the short go (8.4).
The women’s team produced two scorers in barrel racing, led by Brooks’ 14.29 opening round (first), 14.45 short go (fourth) and 28.74 average (split first). Madison Crow won points in all three phases, finishing fourth in average (28.88), fourth in the opening round (14.42) and splitting fifth in the short go (14.46).
In bull riding, Ryan McDaniel was one of just two cowboys to secure points. His score of 73 in the second round topped the field.
UT Martin concludes its fall slate on Nov. 3-5 when it travels to Magnolia, Ark. for a rodeo hosted by Southern Arkansas University.
