Martin, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin finished another flourishing performance as the campus hosted the 48th annual edition of the spring college rodeo April 14-16, 2016 at the Ned Ray McWherter Agricultural Complex and NW (Doc) Robinson Arena.

The UT Martin men’s team romped its way to its third consecutive victory, tallying 1,245 out of a possible 2,865 points awarded to nine teams from the Ozark Region. The 1,245 points eclipsed the previous season-high of 835 points compiled at West Alabama on Oct. 8-10 and resulted in the fifth win in eight rodeos so far this season for the men’s team.
On the women’s side, UT Martin tallied 85 points to finish in seventh place. Three Rivers College placed first in the team standings with 315 points.

UT Martin claimed the top two finishers in bareback riding, as Tanner Phipps and Coy Lutz each split the best score in average (154). Lutz placed first in the opening round with a 78 before splitting second in the short go with a 76. Meanwhile, Phipps led the way in the second round (79) after coming in second place in the first round (75). Houston Herbert also compiled points, splitting fourth in the first round (73) and finishing fifth in average (73).

Ben Walker swept top honors in all three phases of calf roping. He generated times of 8.9 in the first round and 9.0 in the short go for a 17.9 average.

A duo of cowgirls chalked up points in breakaway roping. Shara Adcock claimed second place honors in the first round (2.7), second round (4.7) and average (14.2). Natalie Fletcher’s time of 3.0 in the opening round was also good enough to split sixth place.

In steer wrestling, Slade Bronson ranked amongst the best in the field. His average (13) and second round time (7.3) each ranked fourth while his 5.7 opening round time was the sixth-best mark in the event.

Five UT Martin cowboys combined to claim the three highest point totals in team roping. Lane Mitchell was alongside East Mississippi’s Marcus Theriot for the top finish in average (12.3) and in the short go (5.7) after placing third in the opening round (6.6). The team of Walker and Douglas Rich came in second place in all three phases with an average of 13.5, first round time of 6.3 and a short go performance of 7.2. Bronson and Phipps also joined forces to post times of 17.6 in average (third), 9.6 in the second round (third) and 8.0 in the first round (split fourth).

Three cowgirls earned points in barrel racing, led by the consistency of Madison Crow. She split third with a 27.95 average after finishing fourth in each of the first two rounds (13.92, 14.03). Nealey Dalton had the best time in the first round (13.7) before finishing sixth in both the short go (18.73) and in average (32.43). Also compiling points was Megan Crow, whose first round time of 13.96 was the sixth-best score.
