The AQHA Bulldog Classic was held at the Mississippi Horse Park in Starkville, Mississippi on March 15-17 2013. The MSU Bulldog Classic is the oldest Quarter Horse show in the state of Mississippi, and has grown quickly over the past years. Entries were up for this year’s horse show, with 3,064 entries compared to last year’s 2,412. This translates to an average of 3.8 entries per horse, which may well be a record! In its 54th year, the AQHA-approved show is still going strong, and contestants have been reaping the benefits of the new, more affordable flat entry fee. The $125 advanced flat fee made the show a great value.
Contestants can earn points toward their qualification to compete in Oklahoma City at the AQHA World Championship Show, for amateur and open competitors, or the Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show for youth riders and the Adequan Select World Championship Show in Amarillo for Select amateur competitors.
Cash and prizes were awarded for the all-around champions in each division. In addition to ribbons, $500 in prize money each was awarded to Hayley Saul from Des Ark, Arkansas, the All-around Amateur Champion; Jenny Baker of Reddick, Florida Open Amateur Champion; and Marley Ross from Meridian Mississippi, the Youth Amateur Champion. A saddle was awarded to the Novice Amateur Champion Lisa Marshall.
