The 53rd Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) hosted the best hunter, jumper, and equitation riders in the nation, competing for top prizes at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. over six days of competition: October 25-30, 2011. From the puissance to ponies, the best in equestrian sport competed at the WIHS – and one of the best was Germantown, TN’s own Audrey Muscari.
The WIHS Pony Equitation Classic Finals were held the afternoon of October 30. The win went to 13-year-old Ali Tritschler riding Rose Hill Farm’s Hallelujah with a score of 85.000. Second went to Emma Lemke, with a score of 82.500. Third went to Audrey Muscari riding Orlando, with a score of 80.000, only 5 points away from the win. Orlando is a 14.1 ¼ hh Welsh/Thoroughbred dark bay gelding.
Orlando was second in the Zone, and number six on the qualifying list for the WIHS. He was in the top 25 ponies, with over 2700 qualifying points in 23 shows during the season. Audrey and her coach Jane Olsen were ecstatic about the privilege of attending the show, with a superb third place performance to cap the experience!
“It’s an honor just to be invited to show at the WIHS,” said trainer Jane Olsen. “It was a grueling three weeks of showing at the Verizon Center in Downtown Washington. Schooling times were at 4:30 a.m. and 11 p.m., but ride times were at 9:00 a.m. We went to the Capital Challenge Horse Show, then to Harrisburg. We were home for a week, then went to Washington, where the best of the best show. Just to be there is an extraordinary accomplishment! After the flat phase, she moved up two spots to a fantastic third place finish.” Jane is very proud of Audrey and Orlando!
In addition to Orlando, Audrey shows her green pony Champlain Jane, who was seventh in the Zone. She shows in Children’s Pony and next year will move up to Green Pony. At the Harvest Time show, she won the Large Pony Handy Hunter class on Orlando. She has a new pony, Rockin’ LaBamba, aka “Andy,” whom she shows in Pre-Children’s Hunter. She plans to show him in Children’s Hunter next year. Audrey trains and stables her ponies at Fair Meadow Farm.
