Horse trainer and cowboy clinician Bryan Neubert will be in Starkville, MS at the MSU Horse Park for a 3-day colt starting and ranch roping clinic October 28-30.
Bryanwas raised on his family’s ranch in northern California. When he was growing up, all he wished for was to be the best cowboy he could be. With legendary mentors such as Ray Hunt, Bill Dorrance and Tom Dorrance and lots of real life experiences as a cow boss for various ranches, Bryan fulfilled his wish. He brings a little part of each of these guys with him to every clinic. He is an accomplished horse trainer, rawhide braider and an inspirational motivational speaker.
He now conducts clinics across the U.S. and Canada for much of the year, and holds clinics at his own ranch in Alturas, California, when not on the road.
Neubert has several instructional videos on rawhide braiding and colt starting.The video The First Week - Joe Wolter, Bryan & Jim Neubertgives a detailed look at his training methods. The group started 20 head of colts for the Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, Texas and the video shows their first week of handling.
Neubert has also started and trained mustangs for the BLM Wild Horse Program. He has a video demonstrating his low stress approach with the wild horse: "Taking the Wild out of Mustangs" by Jim Overstreet. Neubert is also a contributor to The Horseman’s Gazette, a quarterly video magazine. Various short clips of Bryan can also be seen on YouTube.
It doesn’t take long to recognize Neubert’s innate abilities with the horse and his patience with the riders. A clinic attendee was quoted, “Some of us have described his clinics as a religious experience. If you show up with your horse, with a listening spirit, it will transform you.” Bryan’s philosophy on horse training goes well beyond just horses – it can apply to our own lives and how we motivate ourselves. Neubert emphasizes, “Notice the smallest try, the slightest change.”
You will not find a booth with a lot of products for sale at his clinics. He is usually in the arena helping horse and rider understand each other and telling wonderful stories about past experiences with Ray and the Dorrance brothers.
At the Starkville clinic, colt starting ($450) will be in the mornings. Neubert will help get your colt started under saddle and address any problems along the way to make it a positive experience for both rider and horse.The experience level of the participants and horses will vary and no one is asked to do anything they aren’t comfortable doing. By the end of the clinic, the goal is for the rider to be riding the colt in a snaffle bit in the arena.
The ranch roping clinic ($450) will be held in the afternoon utilizing roping dummies and live cattle. It is a great opportunity to start young horses on cattle and bring older ones farther along. In this class participants will start on the ground learning and/or practicing various loops. The class will move on to live cattle to practice different shots and Bryan will show techniques in “doctoring” cattle.
Spectators are welcomed to attend at $25/day. The atmosphere is very informal and questions are encouraged from participants and spectators.
