Sunday morning August 14, thirteen boarders at Windsong Farms in Collierville, TN gathered for a trail ride. The high was in the lower 90s, and with less humidity, it almost felt like fall.
Coffee and pastries greeted the boarders as they arrived to tack up their horses. Many breeds of horses were represented on the trail ride: Thoroughbreds, Argentine Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, a Welsh cross, an Arab, a Draft, and a Walking Horse.
The two-hour ride on Windsong Farms and neighboring land took riders around the edges of crop lands, through open fields, wooded trails, and along one trail with steep hills, called “the roller coaster.”
For Emma Daniels, this was her first trail ride. Emma is a student at White Station school in Memphis, TN; she has been riding almost two years, but had never been out in trail ride. She rode a lesson horse named Magnum and had a blast! Emma said, “I learned so much today.”
After the riders returned and cooled out their horses, they enjoyed a sumptuous pot luck brunch, with savory casseroles, fruit plates, deli meats and cheeses, and an éclair pie.
Windsong Farm boarders plan to repeat the trail ride and brunch monthly through the fall season.
