Pablo’s Rescue
By Stephanie Barnes

Pablo was born May 25, 2010.  The dam and foal were rescued May 28, 2010 by Stephanie Barnes, of Mississippi Horse Rescue, at an auction where were destined for slaughter. The mare was severely emaciated and had just given birth. The pair were purchased for $50, and the owner left when the auctioneer made a comment about how thin they were.

We named the mare Genesis because we gave her a new beginning. She is barely two years old and way too young to be a mama. Yet she has been a patient, wonderful mama from the beginning.  She was not gaining weight as fast as she needed to, so we weaned Pablo early. She had horrible feet, so overgrown that she looked like she had on elf shoes, and we are still working to improve that.

Pablo has been a bundle of personality since the moment I saw him!  He has been a wonderful, mischievous little guy! Hannah Dailey, age 16, of Madison, MS now owns Pablo, who resides at Blue Ribbon Farms in Canton, MS.
Pablo holds his own with the horses he is pastured with.

Nathan, a 10-yr-old Thoroughbred gelding is providing "foster care." Pablo does not display the typical submissive foal body language to the geldings in the pasture. He playfully rears toward them. And when being chased by the leader of the herd, Pablo runs around behind him and runs back to him.
