Little Creek Ranch (LCR) of Glen, Mississippi announced the winners of its 2010 Ranch & Trail Horse Challenge.
2010 OPEN DIVISION CHAMPION: AQHA mare “Meradas Dunn Talkin” owned and ridden by Jeff Taylor of Guys, Tennessee. Harold Little, owner of Little Creek Ranch, presented Jeff with the 2010 Championship buckle, making him LCR's two-year reigning Challenge Champion. His mare “Meradas Dunn Talkin” has only been defeated twice in competition. Jeff plans to retire “Molly” from the Open Division and bring his new colts to next year's competition.
The 2010 WOMEN's DIVISION CHAMPION is Teresa Reynolds of Meridian, Mississippi on her AQHA mare “Bella.”
The 2010 THIRD PLACE OVERALL CHAMPION is AQHA gelding “Chip” owned and ridden by Rob Reynolds of Meridian, Mississippi.
The 2010 18 & UNDER CHAMPION is Isaac Patterson, of Corinth, Mississippi riding “Rico.”
The Ranch and Trail Challenge uses obstacles found on the trails and at the ranch, equally presented to challenge both trail horses and ranch horses. The breeds of horses competing was a mix, ranging from gaited horses to Quarter Horse types and Paints. The age of the mounts ranged from 2 to 25 years. The competitors’ ages ranged from 13 to 63 years.
2009 was the first year for the event on LCR, offering only an Open division. The rules are simple, and it is just plain fun. The course is straight forward, with 15 obstacles, and fastest time wins. Obstacles range from gates to bear hides, water crossings to log drags, bridges to polo, trailer loading to chicken thieving, jumps to pony express. The 2009 championship went to a ranch horse, with two gaited horses finishing in the top five. The 2010 event added the Junior Division for 18 and under and the Women's Division.
