Walking Horse Show Benefits STAR Center
Mid-South Horse Show Association’s 22nd Annual Show
by Denise Meise, the STAR Center
The Mid-South Horse Show Association’s (MSHSA) 22nd Annual Walking Horse Show was held on July 10, 2010 at Pugh Bourne Park in Oakfield, Tennessee. The show featured 32 classes including a “stick horse” class for children six and under. Other classes ranged from Amateurs to Rider’s Cup competitors, with some World Grand Champion horses and trainers. Winning horses received ribbons and trophies, as well as points toward year-end high point awards. The MSHSA’s Walking Horse Show is a double-point event.
Show Manager Joe Clements is proud of the legacy of MSHSA’s Walking Horse Show as one of the oldest and largest horse shows in West Tennessee, and the partnership that the MSHSA has developed with the STAR Center.
The Event also featured a silent auction to benefit the STAR Center with about 200 items including trips, gift certificates, and various other items. All of the money raised through this Event can be used as 4 to 1 matching money for many of the Center’s grants.
For the fourth year in a row, the Show benefited the STAR Center, a non-profit organization in Jackson, TN that serves children and adults with disabilities in 21 counties of West Tennessee. The Center assists individuals with their educational, employment, and independence needs. Some of the services are provided by mobile bus or by staff who travel directly to the client’s home, business, or school. Each year, the Center provides over 17,000 services not only to children and adults with disabilities, but also to their educators, health care providers, caregivers, and families. The STAR Center has never turned anyone away because of inability to pay.
The STAR Center would like to thank The Mid-South Horse Show Association for choosing us as their charity and all of the horse show sponsors, participants, volunteers, and spectators who made this event possible.
