West Tennessee Natural Gaited Pleasure Horse Show Set For MAY 22, 2010 Sun Crest Stables and Bill Suiter of McKenzie, Tennessee, and West Wind Stables and Sandy Lemons of Bruceton, Tennessee, have announced two gaited pleasure horse shows for 2010, to be held at the Carroll County Civic Center and Equestrian Arena in Huntingdon, Tennessee. The spring horse show is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 6:00 p.m., and the fall horse show is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. The Carroll County arena is one of the nicest horse show arenas in West Tennessee with ample parking facilities for trucks and trailers. In its fifth year of operation, this all lite-shod gaited pleasure horse show promotes the sound and naturally gaited pleasure horse or mule. The majority of horses are usually Tennessee Walking Horses, but the show is open to any gaited breed of horse. Western or English tack with appropriate apparel are at the exhibitor’s option. Lemons says, “We do not want anyone thinking they cannot come and show their horse just because they do not own horse show clothes.” There is only one exception to the lack of restrictions on apparel. The “Ricky Chism Memorial Field Trial Class.” For the field trial class, a trooper saddle and field trial gear is required on the horse, with the rider exhibiting their field trial attire. This class is open to both ladies and gentlemen. Ricky Chism was a native of McKenzie, Tennessee, and former baseball standout for Murray State University. He was a well-known bird dog owner, breeder, trainer, and avid field trial competitor. All field trial enthusiasts are invited to participate in this special trophy class in memory of Ricky Chism who was tragically lost in a hit and run traffic accident in February 2006. Shoe regulations, which are strictly enforced, allow horses or mules to be barefoot or wearing either keg shoes, 3/8 x 3/4 Lite Shod Shoes, or the 3/8 x 1 Pleasure Horse Shoe. No heavy shoes, action devices, pads, bands, rollers or chains are permitted on the show grounds. No unsound or sored horses will be permitted on the premises, and no horses will be allowed to enter show grounds wearing leg wraps. Leg wraps may be removed at the Horse Entrance Gate. Proof of a current negative Coggins will be required. Also, show managers have the right to refuse the entry or excuse from the arena, any horse deemed to be unsound. All horses are subject to inspection by qualified stewards. The first West Tennessee Natural Gaited Pleasure Horse Show held in 2005. The second show held in 2006, was so popular that the co-sponsors decided to hold a fall show. Currently the horse show features twenty-three (23) classes of competition including the three championship classes. Since its inception, the horse show has seen 202 different horses compete for awards. The May 2009 show saw 172 entries, representing sixty-one horses in competition. This horse show benefits one of the nation’s finest charities, the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Shriners Hospitals for Children is the only pediatric multi-hospital system in the United States that provides all care and services at no charge to patients or families. Admission to this horse show is free for all spectators. Donations at the gate are most welcome for this charity event. The Al Chymia Shrine Carroll County Mounted Patrol, the Hollow Rock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4349 Ladies Auxiliary and junior girls unit will provide concessions and homemade goodies to benefit of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. As an added feature, promptly at 6:00 p.m., the Al Chymia Shrine Carroll County Mounted Patrol will present the colors and perform the opening ceremonies on their matching black Tennessee Walking Horses.
