Spring Jammed Packed with Driving Introduction to Driving and Paul Maye clinics by Lauren Pigford Now that spring is here, the Nashoba Carriage Association has kicked off the driving season with a bang. On March 6, Nashoba members and Clinicians Joanna Wilburn and sister, Sally Ross Davis, held their yearly Introduction to Driving Clinic at their farm, Rollingwoods Farm. Then Nashoba invited Clinician, Paul Maye, for a three day clinic held March 19-21 at Bob Martin’s Split Tree Farm in Moscow, TN. At the Introduction to Driving clinic, Joanna and Sally Ross had over 35 people from all different equine backgrounds show up and learn all about carriage driving. Friends and members of Nashoba volunteered their time, their ponies and horses for the Intro to Driving Clinic. Everyone had the chance to learn how to harness and hitch up a carriage. Once the ponies and horses were harnessed and hitched, everyone had the chance to drive one or more of the equines with an experienced driver. Two weeks later Paul Maye gave individual lessons to drivers who wished to participate. Paul Maye has over 20 years experience as a coachman and trainer both in the USA and in the UK. He trains pleasure driving to Combined Driving Events (CDEs) from beginners to advanced, singles to four in hands. Nashoba members who participated in the clinic brought food, had “tons of fun” and even had a concert Saturday night with Lynn Drury. Nashoba has a busy schedule planned for the year. They are hosting more clinics at Bob Martin’s home, Split Tree Farm on April 16-18 and May 21-23. The April clinic will be given by Tom O’Carroll and the May clinic will be given by Larry Poulin.
