MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams rounded out their fall schedules the first weekend in November (3-5) at Southern Arkansas University. The UT Martin women’s team (200 points) finished in second place out of seven teams while the men’s squad (225 points) placed fourth in the eight-team field.
On the men’s side, Houston Herbert was one of the top cowboys in bareback riding. He finished second in both average (117) and in the opening round (55), while splitting second in the short go (62).
Kenzley Wilson achieved points in all three rounds in breakaway roping. Her 6.7 average ranked second, while she also posted good times in the short go (3.3, third) and in the first round (3.4, fifth).
In the steer wrestling finals, a pair of cowboys garnered points for UT Martin. Craig Parks posted the best time (4.1 seconds) of the first round on his way to placing fourth with an 11.2 average. Hunter Styles produced times of 5.7 in the first round (fifth), 5.8 in the second round (fifth), and 11.5 in average (sixth).
Four UT Martin representatives earned points in team roping. Douglas Rich paired with East Mississippi’s Marcus Theriot to finish second in the opening round (6.3) and fourth in average (6.3). Ross Mitchell and Ethan Wheeler of Northeast Alabama split fourth with a 7.6 in the first round, and also split sixth with the same score in the average. The all-UT Martin duo of Spencer Meyer and Molly Hill also accrued points, finishing sixth with an opening round time of 8.1 seconds.
Kenzley Wilson continued her successful performance this weekend with one of the best efforts in the barrel racing field. The junior out of Black Oak, Ark. placed third in average (33.31), fourth in the short go (16.78) and fifth in the opening round (16.53). Summer Conley got off to a good start in the event, placing second with a time of 16.34 seconds in the first round.
UT Martin officially returns to action on February 23-25, 2017 when it travels to a rodeo hosted by East Mississippi Community College.
