Intro to Carriage Driving Clinic March 6, 2010 Do not miss the Introduction to Carriage Driving Clinic, March 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Rollingwoods Farm in Olive Branch, MS. Joanna Wilburn and her sister, Sally Ross Davis are providing a hands-on free clinic that is sure to get anyone hooked on Carriage Driving. The clinic will start with a discussion of carriages, equines that pull them, and harness types as well as the many different disciplines of carriage driving. This will be an open discussion forum with a question and answer period. Since the clinic is hands-on everyone will be allowed to practice harnessing on available horses/ponies. Once these equines are harnessed and put to their respective carriages, everyone is encouraged to drive. This is an extraordinary opportunity to actually get to hold the reins while experiencing the fun and beauty of carriage driving. Rollingwoods Farm is a Welsh Pony Farm specializing in breeding Welsh ponies for both Hunter and Driving. It is located at 10368 Goodman Road behind the Olive Branch Animal Clinic; the property of Ruth Wilburn's veterinary practice, another sister in the “pony crazed” family. Joanna and Sally Ross have years of experience training carriage horses and ponies. Joanna Wilburn has been actively showing and training both drivers and their ponies for over twenty years. She gives private driving lessons as well as clinics. She teaches with school ponies or will work with the driver’s horse or pony as long as the equine has had driving training. Sally Ross Davis has also been actively showing and training driving animals for almost as long as Joanna. (She is the youngest after all). Although she does not train drivers she occasionally takes young ponies to break to drive. The team of sisters, Joanna, Sally Ross and Ruth, are members of Nashoba Carriage Association, a 10 year old club dedicated to the sport of Carriage Driving. Nashoba has a carriage driving show in the fall every year. The dates for the show this year are October 22-24 at the Germantown Horse Show Grounds in Germantown TN. Volunteers for this show are both needed and welcomed. Nashoba has a monthly meeting where clinics, fun drives and fun shows are planned, as well as plenty of good ole southern hospitality. Members of the Nashoba Carriage Association will be at the clinic to answer any questions about the driving association.
