SFEA Wall Of Fame Additions Don Dowdle, founder of Mid-South Horse Review added to Wall of Fame By Peggy Hart The Shelby Farms Equestrian Alliance recently added the 2009 set of outstanding equestrians and horses to the Wall of Fame at the Agricenter Show Place Arena. Selected for this year’s group were Don Dowdle, founder and former owner of the Mid-South Horse Review and long time supporter of equestrian activities; Mac Cone, Silver Medalist at the Beijing Olympics who learned to ride in Germantown, TN; Jackie McConnell famed rider and trainer of Tennessee Walking Horses; Brenda Watson, outstanding Hunter/ Jumper rider; Kayla Quinley, 2006 National Pole Bending Champion; and Miss Rustler, Grand Prix Jumper ridden by Brenda Watson. The Wall of Fame showcases outstanding representatives of equestrian activities to the horse community and general public. They include horses, trainers, riders and breeders who have achieved notoriety locally, nationally and internationally. The mid-south area has enjoyed a depth of horse talent and knowledge over the years: from breeders who affected an entire breed of horses, to trainers and riders who displayed outstanding abilities to the world. They include horses of many disciplines that took your breath away when they entered the arena. Some are long gone, some are still actively participating in their discipline, and some have retired to other endeavors or a nice sunny pasture. Wherever they are, the Wall of Fame recognizes their accomplishments! Also on the Wall are Tennessee Walking Horse sire Carbon Copy, Pro-Rodeo Cowboy Association Hall of Famer Lecile Harris, Rollingwood Farms Welsh Pony Farm, Olympic Gold Medalist Melanie Smith Taylor, National Cutting Horse Hall of Famer Bobby Brown and Candy’s Tara, Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal winning Appaloosa. The Alliance and Show Place Arena are looking for more outstanding riders, breeders, horses and trainers to be nominated for our next installation. Nominees must have won on a national or international level. To submit, send an 8x10 picture, black and white or color, with a description of their accomplishments. Send entries to: Shelby Farms Equestrian Alliance, 264 Lake Hill Cove, Byhalia, MS 38611. Mark the envelope “DO NOT BEND” and add stiff cardboard in the envelope to prevent folding of the picture. All entries will be judged, and entries that are not selected cannot be returned.
