The Nashoba Carriage Classic
September 18-20
By Lauren Pigford
The Nashoba Carriage Association held its yearly Nashoba Carriage Classic and Arena Driving Trial on September 18- 20 at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds. Instead of drivers walking around with their elegant driving hats watching the multiple classes everyone was running for cover due to the heavy rain that pelted the Mid-South for about two weeks straight.
Even though the rain made a messy and wet show, it seemed that the members of Nashoba and their out of town guests and competitors still had an exciting time. There were new drivers and new, green ponies but all handled the poor weather like a pro.
The traditional Magnolia Marathon had to be sized down due to the soggy footing but drivers still headed out, even during the rain, to enjoy the distinctive pleasure that driving brings. Hopefully next year the Nashoba Classic and Arena Driving Trial will have cooperative weather but, if not, at least everyone has a rain suit, rain boots and an umbrella ready to go.
