J. W. Pipkin And Popeye Have A Good Summer Pair competes at Southern Regional show in Lexington, Virginia J.W. Pipkin of Southaven, Mississippi and his Spotted Saddle horse “Popeye” were busy this summer with the 4-H horse program. He qualified for the State Horse show in Jackson, Mississippi. He won Reserve High Point Gaited at the state level. This gave him the opportunity to attend the Southern Regional show held in Lexington, Virginia. At Virginia J.W. and Popeye competed against 42 horses from 13 southern states in non-trotting gaited classes. He placed fourth overall in these classes. J.W. is the son of Frank and Myrna Pipkin of Southaven. He is 18 years old and is a senior at Southaven High School. Popeye is owned and trained by J.W. Popeye is 9 years old. They have made it to Regional competition the two years that they have been showing together.
