Custom Bull Ropes and Halters
Ben Cole is what most people call him, although his real name is Colville. He and his wife are retirees, and have been residents of Ellendale, Tennessee for the past 34 years.
Mr. Cole is a leather crafter who specializes is making custom bull ropes and halters. He has been plaiting these special order bull ropes for over 50 years.
He started making them when he was 18 years old and was a bull rider and calf roper himself. The bull ropes are made out of a synthetic polycarbon and the best braided latigo leather. The sizes range from 5.5 up
to 9.9. The bull ropes have a high riser that helps keep the riders on the bull. It takes him approximately one week to make a bull rope.
He has a shop beside his home in Ellendale and makes a variety of custom tack and also repairs tack. Some of his craftsmanship include halters, bridles, belts and purses. He will custom design a one of a kind show halter or bridle with colored leather in white, burgundy, black, rawhide or tan. Using the finest leather, the tack will be hand sewn and can be braided or lined. He can add rhinestones, turqoise or other bling as requested by the customer. The purses and belts have a very unique western look.
Ben Cole is the kind of man that leaves you laughing at his jokes and appreciative of his talents.
