September 29-30—Old Mound “Saddle-Up” For St. Jude Trail Ride by Kathy Moore The 8th annual trail ride, hayride, and dance will be held on September 29-30, 2006 at 824 Old Mound Road near Friendship, TN for the purpose of raising money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. The success of last year’s ride included over 300 riders, 15 teams with wagons, two 40 foot hay wagons loaded with folks, and hundreds of others who just came for the fun. Donations from individuals, businesses, and the auction reached over $35,742.00. Everyone is invited to bring a dish of food (BBQ is our main menu), your donation (collected ahead of time in your area), and a gift item for the auction. Go out several weeks early and let everyone know you are going to ride at the trail ride for St. Jude children and ask for a donation to take with you. Entertainment starts Friday night at 7:30 pm with music and dance with local talent. The main ride is scheduled to leave promptly at 9 am Saturday. Please arrive at 9:00 am or earlier to participate in the ride. During the ride, there will be hay wagons for those without a horse. After the meal, the auction will last about 3 hours, then Mutton Bustin', Goat Chase and other games for the kids will be played. There will be a live band for the Saturday night dance starting at 7:30 pm. Overnight campers are welcomed, but come early for best locations. Camping is primitive with some electrical hook-up. Water will be readily available (water truck will make rounds several times daily). Negative Coggins papers are required to bring a horse for the ride. Papers will be checked at entrance.
