Endurance Riders Bring Home AERC Honors

The American Endurance Ride Association yearend awards included several Mid South horses and riders. The Arabian mare HA Garbo (*Garnizon x HH Zeeba) and her owner/rider Chris Frame were ranked first place in the Southeast Region Heavyweight Division for 2003. In addition HA Garbo received her 1000 mile medallion, having attained lifetime competition mileage of over 1000 endurance miles. The Arabian quarter horse cross gelding Shennandoah and his owner/rider Linda Joyner were ranked 8th in the Southeast Region Lightweight Division for 2003. Shennandoah also received his 1000 mile medallion this year as he completed over 1000 competition miles. Jennifer Whittaker's Arabian mare Autumn Kismet (Amadeuss x CD Bask Esprit) was the first place Best Condition horse in the Southeast Region Limited Distance division. These horses and their riders all had a fabulous competition year in 2003. Shennandoah and Linda Joyner were Top Ten at 6 rides in 2003, including 2 first place finishes and 1 Best Condition win! Linda is very proud of Shenn's accomplishments. She first saw him as a few week old foal on a feedlot with his dam. She was able to rescue the pair of them, and brought them home to try and put weight on the mare, crossing her fingers that the foal wouldn't be stunted or hurt in some way through his early malnutrition. His dam Kyrna Carafe, stands only 14 h. and Linda believes this is due to her hard early life. Apparently Shennandoah was rescued in time, for he stands at 15.1 and has proven he has what it takes in the endurance world! Linda has high hopes for his continued career in endurance, meanwhile his dam has been being used as a broodmare for Keepsake Farms in Middleton TN, as Linda would like to see siblings to Shenn do well on the endurance trail. HA Garbo and Chris Frame of Rosemark Arabians, Rosemark TN, also had a fabulous year, they completed in the Top Ten at 5 rides in 2003. Chris purchased Garbo as a 3 yr old. Her sire is a Polish National Champion Halter stallion, and HA Garbo is a beauty, but Chris put her under saddle and headed down the endurance trail instead of into the show ring. Garbo has proven that she has more than just a pretty face as she has carried Chris over many miles of trail. Chris would love to keep riding HA Garbo, but has decided that it is time for her to take a break and be a mother - he plans to breed her to the endurance stallion Summer Saga in 2004. Autumn Kismet and Jennifer Whittaker had an outstanding year riding Limited Distance. Endurance rides are a minimum of 50 miles; LD is a minimum of 25 miles. Kismet is Jennifer's back up horse, and she wasn't sure Kismet was ready for the endurance distance but now Jennifer thinks she just might have to try her there in 2004. In 2003 Kismet was Top Ten in 5 LD rides including 2 Best Condition wins. At only 14.1 hands, this little mare is proving herself to be a powerhouse, so Jennifer has decided to continue to campaign her along with her first string horse, her stallion Summer Saga. She is also hopeful that some of her junior rider students at Mystic Rose Arabians in Eads TN, will be able to take Kismet to the races a few times.
