Alexandra King Wins A Junior Olympic Gold Medal In Pony Jumpers
Allie King qualified as one of four pony jumpers to represent the Zone 4 Team in the United States at Pony Finals. Zone 4 represents Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Only the top scoring pony jumpers from our zone are invited to attend. Three members from Florida, and Allie from Tennessee competed in Willoughby, Ohio August 4th- 7th, 2003 at the Andrews School where the competition took place.
Alexandra King, of Collierville, Tennessee is the daughter of Frank and Patricia King. She is the granddaughter of Dr. And Mrs. Jan Duggar of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Mr. and Mrs. Lee King of Grenada, Mississippi.
The competition in pony jumper is held in the Nations format which is the same format used in Olympic competition. Each member of the team draws out their order in the go. After the first class is completed only the top four teams are allowed to jump again for a final score and rank of Gold, Silver and Bronze. Entering the final phase our team was in second place and it could go either way. We had some big smiles when the finals scores put us in the Gold position. It was a wonderful experience for all of the riders.
Allie said "It is a real honor to be part of the team." Frank her father said" we are proud of her for qualifying for pony finals, and to win the Gold is more than we expected!"
Allie's pony, Double Delight, is a Virginia Bred pony from the welsh/thoroughbred stallion, Sailor's Delight. Allie will tell you that her pony loves to jump!
