Al Chymia Shriners Carroll County Mounted Patrol Dominates Southeastern Horse Competion by Larry Spencer The 68th Southeastern Shrine Associations Annual Convention was held August 6 - 9 in Lexington, Kentucky. This is the largest Shrine Association having 30 member Shrine Centers in nine Southern states and the Panama Zone Approximately 300 units participate in fund raising activities during the year to support regional Shrine Centers. During the annual conference, the SESA comes together to review various activities and projects benefiting the Shrine Centers. Shriners also enjoy fellowship and team competitions among the various units - clowns, hillbillies, tin tizzies, flying fesses, car patrols, Shrine bands, motorcycle units, provost guards and mounted horse patrols. SESA members visited the local Shrine hospital meeting the Shriner children and their families. The center in Lexington has 44 bed units in service daily. Over 1800 patients are cared for annually at no charge. After visiting the center, one can easily understand the urgency to continue to raise funds to support the work of the Shrine Hospital. Five local Shriners from Carroll County, TN attended this year's conference. The AI Chymia Mounted Patrol- Carroll County partnering with the Memphis unit competed in the SESA horse patrol competition. Competition included team drill and ceremony, individual events and speed games. The Carroll County Unit won the High Team Point Trophy along with several individual awards. Events were scored 1 st through 5th place. Members from Carroll County included Art Cason of Hollow Rock, Darrell Douglas of Huntingdon, PeeWee Floyd ofMaytown and Bill Lemons of Vale. Individual awards were as follows: Open Racking 1st Darrell Douglas 2nd Art Cason 3rd PeeWee Floyd Open Walking 1st Darrell Douglas 2nd PeeWee Floyd 3rd Art Cason 4th Bill Lemons English Pleasure 1st Darrell Douglas 2nd PeeWee Floyd 3rd Art Cason Memphis unit members included Thorn Henning and. Jim Norman, Thorn Henning took first place in Western Pleasure, Pole Bending, Trail Class and 2nd in Reining with Jim Nonnan taking second place in Western Pleasure. In Drill and Ceremony Carroll County placed 5th with the Memphis Unit placing 2nd. High Point Horses were 1st Dude (Thom Henning), 2nd Midnight (Darrell Douglas), 3rd Black Magic(PeeWee Floyd) High Point Team - 1st AI Chymia Carroll County Mounted Patrol 2nd AI Chymia Memphis Mounted Patrol In Saturday's SESA Grand Parade - AI Chymia Mounted Patrols took 1st place. Accompanying the AI Chymia units to Lexington was Noble Martin Eason also a member of the Carroll County Mounted Patrol.
