Hunter and jumper riders were back at the Germantown Charity Horse Show arena in Germantown, Tenn. for the second installment of West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association’s (WTHJA) Memphis in May series, May 12-15, 2022. The spring weather had mostly left the mid-south for this show, with Memphis heat back in season. Beanie Cone commented, “Memphis in May II sure felt like a rehearsal for summer.” Show organizers said the numbers were up: 40 horses more at this show than the previous week’s show.
Clay Alder won this week’s WTHJA Hunter Derby on Carita Palmer’s Sea Glass. She also swept the USHJA Hunters 2’9” division, again, with firsts in four out of five classes on Mary Alice West’s Seaside.
Jason Schnelle and Cheryl Rubenstein’s Capisce were Performance Hunter 3’3” Champions – again.
Mia Duke and Fairywood Tomboy were Pony Hunter Champions, as well as winners of the Pony Hunter Classic, the USEF/M&S Pony Medal, and were second in WIHS Pony Equitation.
Debra Mayes and Ashley Fant’s Nixon were Short/Long Stirrup co-Champions.
Susan Ross and her Blue Moon won the $1500 Child/Adult Hunter Classic.
Calder Trotz and Fate bested the class of 14 to win the Junior Hunter Classic.
The Low Child/Adult Classic drew 18 entries with Nicole Harris taking the blue ribbon on her Girl Crush.
Rachel Sutton and her Solo Con Te 2 took the A/O Hunter Classic top prize.
Kayla Benson and Corville Z won the $1500 Low/High Child/Adult Classic.
Local trainers were, again, very supportive of the show and very busy coaching riders. Dave Pellegrini brought 35 horses, who placed in 226 out of 248 classes. Jason Schnelle brought 20 horses, who placed in 121 out of 124 classes. Katana Kennedy O’Brien coached riders on 18 horses to 152 placements out of 165 classes entered. And Beanie Cone brought 16 horses to the show, placing in 135 out of 157 classes entered. Every trainer had lots of congratulations for their riders and horses at both shows.
