Jackson, MS – February 21, 2022. The 56th annual Dixie National Quarter Horse Show, ran February 15-20, 2022 at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson, Miss., with large classes and lots of fun.
The show began with the Mary Hopkins Memorial Equestrian With Disabilities AQHA classes on February 8 - 9. There was a full line-up of AQHA, NSBA, and PHBA classes, ranging from walk-jog and walk-job-lope Western Horsemanship to trail, para-reining, and hunter under saddle. All of the participants had a great time, and made a lot of new friends. We are grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, and exhibitors who made this portion of our show a success. The Dixie National AQHA show, with all classes at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center, began on Wednesday, February 12th
with roping, Cow Horse and Boxing, with large numbers filling the classes.
Our fourth CC Dubois Memorial Tie Down Roping was also held on Wednesday, sponsored by Elite Custom Saddlery, which generously donated custom halters and portfolios to the winners of every roping class at the horse show. This is the fifth year in which Elite Custom Saddlery has donated the Andrew McBeath Memorial High Point Cattle Horse saddle, which was awarded to Bobby Lewis and J Lows Glow, owned by Larry & Denice Bledsoe.
Gary Wells Performance Horses along with Carl and Pam McBeath paid out to the fastest time in the youth and amateur tie-down roping. The reining and ranch riding numbers were also large.
The Equine Expo was held on the upper level of the Equine Center and outside in their trailers, with a variety of vendors. Folks could get Sweet Berries cheesecake; custom-designed breast collars, halters, T-shirts and more from The Sassy Spur Tack & Boutique; Western fashions from Kalamity Jane; a manicure from Sheryl’s Nail Barn; beauty and spa treatments from the Spirit of Change; Cathy’s Dressed To A ‘T’ had a Texas flair; shop for a horse trailer with Lewis Trailer Sales; and many more.
Wednesday saw reining and ranch riding classes, and ranch trail classes for the first year, which were well attended.
Thursday was a full day of Versatility Ranch Horse (VRH) classes. We offered all levels and all events to include cutting and cow horse. There were large classes here as well.
Friday was a day for showmanship and English classes. Friday night was a FREE colt breaking session from our friends at Wild Mustang Ministries. It was a very interesting session and well attended.
This year, Saturday included our grandparents favorite classes – leadline and stick horse race. We had 14 leadline exhibitors and 34 stick horse participants, which made for fun classes. We also had halter and western pleasure classes on Saturday. And we finished the day with a Youth Mixer on Saturday night.
We concluded the show on Sunday with a day of trail. All trail courses were written, prepared, and maintained by the M.O.T. Tim Kimura.
