The Deep South Rodeo Association and J-B Rodeo Company hosted the 37th annual, IPRA-sanctioned Knotty Bolden Memorial Rodeo at Jerry Bolden’s J Bar B Ranch on Saturday night July 24, 2021 in Holly Springs, MS. The annual rodeo honors the late Donald Lanier (Knotty) Bolden of Holly Springs, MS who was the 1983 world bull riding champion. Greg Curtis, of Ashland, MS, received this year’s Knotty Bolden Memorial Buckle from Rookie Bolden.
Jerry Bolden started his rodeo company with his late brother, Knotty Bolden, who was tragically killed in 1984 at the age of 25 while riding a bull in J Bar B Rodeo’s practice ring. Knotty was thrown from the bull, who stepped on his chest after he was on the ground. Continuing what they started together, Jerry Bolden hosts the Knotty Bolden Memorial Rodeo each July in memory of his brother.

It is with sadness that we announce that Jerry Bolden (77) passed away on July 30, 2021, just a week after the Knotty Bolden Memorial Rodeo.
Jerry was born in Slayden, Miss. on December 8, 1943 to Edgar Lee Bolden and Addie Mae Byrd Bolden.
Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry Rookie Bolden of Hudsonville, Mississippi; his companion, Sue Bolden, and three sisters, Lucy Carpenter Howell and Faye Cook, both of Hudsonville, and Nellie Hurdle of Slayden. He also leaves three grandchildren, Keifer Bolden, Presley Bolden, and Parker Griffin, and three great grandchildren, Tripp Bolden, Chase Bolden, and Addyson Keeling.
Services are Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at the Holly Springs Funeral Home, with burial at Old Hudsonville Presbyterian Cemetery following the service. Visitation is Monday August 2, 2021, from 5:00 - 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
