The Arkansas Quarter Horse Association hosted its 19th annual Memorial Day/Stanford Happening show at the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn. May 28-31, 2021. With the I-40 bridge across the Mississippi River closed for repairs, exhibitors had to take an alternate route to get to the Show Place Arena. The four judges for the show were John Briggs, Ron Stratton, Dean Bogart, and Tracy Willis. The show offered a flat fee of $300 for one horse, which included a stall for three nights, AQHA entry fees, office fees, and admin fees.

The exhibitor’s party got underway on Friday afternoon with hot dogs and other tasty treats for everyone.

Saturday’s Stanford Happening Memorial classes included the $500 added Stanford Non-Pro Level 1 Western Pleasure, the Stanford Small Fry Walk-Trot (10 & Under), and the Stanford Level 1 Rider walk-Trot (11 & Over).

Sunday’s Stanford Happening Memorial classes were the $500 added Stanford Ranch Riding and the $500 Stanford Ranch Rail.

The show’s first AQHA Ranch Trail class attracted 15 entries in the Open, followed by Jackpot Ranch Rail classes.

A special feature of the show was the sixth annual Blind Horsemanship Challenge with 23 entries and $1,500 added money. This is a fun class open to all age non-pro riders and all breeds of horses. Here’s how it works: all exhibitors enter the arena and face the wall at the beginning of the class. Exhibitors are not allowed to watch anyone else ride the pattern before they do so or to look at the pattern before the class begins. One exhibitor at a time will be allowed a maximum of 60 seconds to look at the pattern. Once time is up, the exhibitor will turn around and execute the pattern. Once everyone has completed the pattern, all work on the rail and then line up for placings.
