River Glen Equestrian Park is a breathtakingly beautiful rural venue for a USDF recognized dressage show. Dressage by the River, scheduled for mid May and mid August, is exactly as the name indicates, next to the Holston River in New Market, Tennessee.
Dressage by the River I was held the weekend of May 15-16, 2021 with an opportunity for riders to show under two long-time “S” judges - Charlotte Trentleman from Florida and Alison Head from South Carolina.
Two riders were excited to reach milestones at this show. Open rider Joni Abney showed her horse Denmark at Grand Prix level to obtain her Gold Medal. Adult Amateur rider Marilyn (Jean) Sullivan showed her horse Damascus at Third Level to obtain her Bronze Medal.
Classes were offered from USDF Introduction to Grand Prix and one young rider took advantage of a Dressage Equitation class.
The team challenge was won by “What Goes Up Must Come Down,” posting an average score of 71.438. Team members were Emily Broiler Curtis riding in Open, Mary Piller and Samantha Fogg, Junior riders, and Adult Amateur Anna Wallace.
High scores posted for individuals were:
• Open/rider Emily Broiler Curtis on Bevan HHV with 72.759%
• Adult Amateur rider Erin Liedle riding Griffin D’or Menezlus with 73.621%
• Rachel Turner showing Introductory on Classy Curiosity with 78.5%
Adult Amateur rider Jennifer Bolen said, “Dressage by the River is a peaceful location and all the participants are so supportive.”
