On the weekend of November 15-17, 2019 the MTSU Stock Horse Team hosted an ASHA (American Stock Horse Association) Clinic and Region 2 Championship show, along with their annual Candy Corn Classic. The Candy Corn Classic is a combination horse show offering reining, western classes, and hunt seat classes. This three -day event took place at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn., next door to the team’s MTSU Horse Science Center.
Both shows attracted over 200 horse/rider combinations, making this event their biggest shows to-date. We had 25 clinic participants with clinicians Brandi Scheer, on cow work; Courtney Smith, on trail and pleasure; and Shane Campbell on reining. ASHA national president, Robert Hartley and Secretary Stacy Jo Hartley were in attendance from Oregon to assist in hosting the Region 2 Championship.
Championship buckles were provided by ASHA and reserve champion breast collars were provided by Dennis Connor of DC Cowhorse Gear. In addition to all-around prizes, class winner prizes were given and sponsored by Teknor Apex, Rutherford Co-Op, and the MTSU Stock Horse team.

Jr Youth Champion: Morgan Curry and Fishy Banker

The awards banquet was held at the conclusion of the show in the Miller Club and with a chili cook-off hosted by the Tennessee Stock Horse Association.
The first MTSU stock horse show of 2020 will be April 3-4 at the Tennessee Livestock Center, followed by MTSU’s Center of Equine Recovery for Veterans open show on April 5th.
