NEW ROYALTY CROWNED AT THE BUCKIN’ ON THE RIVER PRCA RODEO
Always a bitter sweet moment to watch the perpetual silver crowns pass from one hat to the next, marking the trip around the sun and the dawning of a new year for the Miss Rodeo Tennessee Association. On Saturday, July 20, 2019, the crown moved from the hat of outgoing Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee 2018-19 Josie McGrew of Cedar Hill, TN, to the hat of Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee 2019-20 Ryleigh Dunn of Taft, TN.
Also, during the same ceremony, outgoing Jr. Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2018-19 Ruby Suggs of Williamsport, TN, put the crown she has worn for a year onto the hat of Jr Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2019-20 Layla Holland of Millington, TN.
Teen titleholder Dunn is entering her senior year at Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN. She plans earn a nursing degree and work in critical care.
She is the daughter of George and Lora Dunn of Taft, TN.
She is a 4.0 honor student with active memberships in the Beta Club, FFA, 4H and the Lincoln County’s Drama Club. She also plays flute in the school band.
Additionally, Dunn is a participant in the TN NBHA, Alabama Little Britches Rodeo Association, Tennessee Valley Saddle Club Association and the Cowboy Church of the Limestone County Drill Team.
Her rodeo events are barrel racing, pole bending and breakaway roping.
Previous titles and awards include 2019 Sr. Miss Limestone Co Sheriff’s Rodeo Queen, 2018 St. Miss Ardmore Police Reserves Rodeo Queen, 2019 Regional Horse Judging Champion and she is an officer in the Lincoln County FFA chapter.
Junior Miss titleholder Holland is entering the sixth grade at E. E. Jeter Elementary School in Millington, TN, where she is an honor roll student.
She is the daughter of Branden and Lydia Holland of Millington, TN.
She is a third-generation cowgirl who has spent much of her childhood riding in multiple events at the Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club. Recently she has joined the Tennessee Youth Rodeo Association. Her rodeo events are barrel racing and pole bending.
Previous titles and awards include Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club Buckaroo Princess, Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club Princess, Dacus Saddle Club Princess, Rodeo of the Mid-South Princess, Miss Dixie National Rodeo Sweetheart and she was the 2018 Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club Pony All-Around Winner and the Youth All-Around Winner.
Both young ladies will spend a year promoting the sport of rodeo by making rodeo appearances, riding in parades, visiting schools and civic organizations, interacting the media and participating in rodeo related activities.
In the pageant, they were scored in the categories of horsemanship, personality and appearance and rodeo knowledge by a panel of three judges.
The Miss Rodeo Tennessee Pageant is held annually in conjunction with the Buckin’ on the River Rodeo in Savannah, TN, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
The 2019 pageant is sponsored by Tennessee Equine Hospital, No Limits Tutoring, Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association, Creative Images by Jennifer, DeBusk Livestock Services, Zion Tack, Home Banking Company and the Buckin’ on the River PRCA Rodeo.
