The 20th annual Buck Creek St. Jude Trail ride, September 27-30, 2018 at Weaver Farms in Alamo, Tenn., raised a whopping $69,330 in donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! In addition, Bobby Marquez presented a check for $4,140 to Buck Creek St. Jude Trail Ride, funds that he raised through his Country with a Heart Show in Nashville, which that he hosts every June.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions prior to the event, the Buck Creek Trail Ride still drew a large crowd. The rain had turned the 40-acre field into a muddy campground for the brave campers only! But the support of the community still shined through with enormous support for St. Jude.
The weekend kicked off with a parade around Alamo Court Square, as riders were welcomed by spectators and signs from supporters.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 53 opened the ceremonies each night, presenting the colors for the National Anthem. They also assisted in providing fun farm games for all the children on Saturday afternoon, including the popular game of dressing the goat, sponge bucket, and relay races.
Attendees were entertained nightly by live bands, and this year, Buck Creek had the best entertainment ever to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Thursday night featured Steve Hughes and the Tumbleweed Band. On Friday night, longtime supporter of Buck Creek and country artist from Nashville with a Texas sound, Bobby Marquez opened for award-winning country music artist Mark Chesnutt. Mark Chesnutt performed an awesome show! On Saturday night, Theron Gean & the Cowboys opened for Bobby Marquez.
The weather improved over the weekend and brought in a new crowd of riders for the Saturday morning guided trail ride. Horses were saddled and wagons were loaded to begin the three and half hour ride around the countryside. There were over 65 horses and several wagons full of excited cowboys and cowgirls.
After the ride, families of St. Jude patients shared stories of how they were helped through St. Jude. Following their testimonies, donated auction items were sold by both live auction and silent auction to raise even more funds for St. Jude.
Organizer Kathy Moore summarized the event: “Without the community support and dedicated participants and volunteer workers, this event would not be possible. I would like to thank everyone who came and worked together to make this event happen. Thank you to Terry Weaver for the use of his farm to host this event every year. Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered to help in so many ways, and to everyone who attended.”
