Longreen Foxhounds held its 60th Opening Meet on November 4 at the McFadden’s Birdlands in Como, Mississippi. The weather was not as accommodating as one would wish for a formal ceremony. Just as the hounds were to be blessed, the skies opened up – not with a Presbyterian sprinkling, but with a full Baptist dunking. Luckily, the weather was not cold. Despite the rain, the hunt went on as planned, albeit the “Reader’s Digest Condensed Version,” as hounds were brought in after about an hour’s hunt.

The Chula Homa Hunt hosted its 35th annual Opening Meet and Blessing of the Hounds at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David McGowan on November 11, 2017 in Brandon, Mississippi. More than 40 riders and 200 spectators from Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Louisiana attended the event.

Janice Clemons and Ginna McGowan co-chaired this event. Hunt festivities began with a catered breakfast and silent auction. Masters and staff then gathered the hounds for the Blessing and stirrup cup. Once the hounds were cast, spectators followed on specially designated tally-ho wagons to experience the hunt.
