Magnolia, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams put the finishing touches on their fall seasons November 2-4, 2017 at the rodeo hosted by Southern Arkansas University. The UT Martin men’s team came in fourth place with 215 points, while the women’s squad also notched a fourth-place finish with 150 overall points.
Jonny Walker led the way for UT Martin in bareback riding, as his 75 points in the first round was the best in the field. His 75 average was good enough for third place as well.
In calf roping, Craig Parks recorded points for UT Martin by splitting fifth in the opening go, posting a time of 12 seconds.
Colt Matthews put on a good performance in steer wrestling for UT Martin, as the junior from Homeland, Fla. generated the best time in the short go (4.3) before splitting the best time in average (11.8).
Kayla Lombardo gained points for UT Martin in goat tying, as her time of 7.6 seconds in the first round was the sixth-best time in the field.
A trio of UT Martin cowboys secured points in team roping. Clay Tilley and Will McCraw had the best time in the short go (7.2), while also placing second in average (14.5) and fifth in the first round (7.3). UT Martin’s Patrick Houchins teamed up with Jake Wells from East Mississippi Community College and finished first in average (14.2), second in the short run (7.4) and split third in the opening go (6.8).
Three cowgirls accrued points for UT Martin in barrel racing, led by sophomore Casey Allen tallying points in all three phases. The Vandergrift, Pa. native placed second in average (30.14) after generating identical 15.07 times in both the first and second rounds – finishing fourth in the short go and fifth in the opening round. Kenzley Wilson (14.99, third place) and Summer Conley (15.1, sixth) also brought home points in the first round.
UT Martin will spend the next three-and-a-half months training for its four-rodeo spring schedule, which starts on February 22-24, 2018 at East Mississippi Community College. A rodeo at Arkansas-Monticello follows on April 5-7 before the 50th Annual UT Martin Spring College Rodeo takes place at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion on April 12-14, 2018. A rodeo at Northwest Mississippi Community College on April 19-21 closes out the regular season before the 70th annual College National Finals Rodeo, set for June 10-16, 2018 in Casper, Wyoming.
