On May 19- 21, 2017 at the Shelby Showplace Arena, Memphis, Tenn. the clock was ticking at another Dynamite Barrel
Race. There was plenty of money added – Open 4D $2,000 added, plus Future Fortunes Bonus money, and KISS
Stallion Incentive money, for the multi-sanctioned barrel race: BBR, IBRA, WPRA, BOTB, and On The Road approved. Buckles went to the Average winners in all divisions, including side pots.
While the fastest times around the barrels are usually the focus of barrel racing news, one rider and her “steed” at the Dynamite Barrel Race offered a different focus. Likely the cutest pair at the show were Kaycee Rhea Crook of Friendship, Tenn. and her Thelwell-type pony “Mister Bay.” The pair had the audience’s attention as soon as they entered the arena in the 12 & Under division on Saturday. Mister calmly walked the pattern around the barrels, as Kaycee kicked to keep him going. Then, in a burst of speed after rounding the third barrel, Mister picked up a slow trot to take his rider through the timers a final time. Kaycee was all smiles and, obviously enjoying her ride! And Mister Bay took it all in stride – in his own sweet time: 99.990.
On the other hand, there were plenty of fast runs over the weekend. In Friday’s 12 & Under class, Faith Davis of Forrest City, AR and Storm won the 1D with a time of 16.863. In the Open 4-D, McKenzie Morgan, of Maryville, TN, and InFirewaters Honor won the 1D with a time of 15.062. McKenzie also won the Youth Side Pot on Friday. In Friday’s Adult Side Pot, Megan Jamerson, of Murray, KY, and Deep Laughing were the winners with a time of 15.477. Cindy Toll took first and second places in the Friday Masters Side Pot on Goodnessake (15.646) and Sheza Casanova Special (15.786), respectively.
In Saturday’s WBRL Sidepot, Mendy Williams, of Hartsville, TN, and Sweet Definition were the 1D winners with a time of 15.104. In the Masters Side Pot, Christie Gilkey, of Princeton, KY, and CC OntheRocks won the 1D with a time of 15.490. In the Adult Side Pot and Open, Jimmy Cagle, of Fayetteville, TN, and Victorious Dash made the dash to 1D victory with a time of 14.853. In the Youth Side Pot, Madison Shelton, of Fayetteville, TN, and Zanes Zeke were the 1D winners with a time of 15.237.
In Sunday’s WBRL Side Pot, Morgan McKenzie and InFirewaters Honor were, once again, the 1D winners with a fast time of 14.912. The pair also won Sunday’s Youth Side Pot and the Open 4D. Jimmy Cagle, of Fayetteville, TN, on Figure I’m Special, took Sunday’s Masters Side Pot with a time of 15.215. Katie Hancock of Coldwater, Miss., on In Honor of Hornet, won the Sunday Adult Side Pot with a time of 15.284. In the 12 & Under class, Cole Grace, of Hopkinsville, KY, and Rita took first place in 1D over 34 other entries with a time of 16.097. Kaycee and Mr. Bay, were again, winners of the slowest time, 99.990. But – there’s no stress here!
Average winners were: Jamie Cagle on Victorious Dash (appropriately named) won the 1D. Susan Wesley and Red Man C were the 2D winners. Allison Cratin and Rickys Two were the 3D winners. And Kurt Chandler and Roll On Bull were the 4D winners.
